Sometimes it ain't pretty. Before surgery, I was really worried about what would happen if my bloodsugar went low and I couldn't physically eat enough sugar to bring it up. So far, sticking to juice and fruit has worked perfectly.
Fast forward to Saturday night - we're having a party at our house. I ordered cupcakes and cookies from the bakery and swore them off the whole time. Then my bloodsugar dropped pretty low, and without thinking, I grabbed a few cookies and inhaled them.
Then I started to POUR sweat. It was as if I were melting.
Then I started to feel like I was going to die. I stood up and my legs were so weak I could barely make it up the stairs.
Then I threw up over and over and over.
I think I was even throwing up in my sleep.
That was my first (and hopefully last) experience with the Dumping Syndrome (google it.). No sweets for this gal anymore!

Saturday with Dad and Sue
Today my dad and his finace Sue came down for our anniversary. They saved two pieces of our wedding cake for us (thank goodness, because we never got any!). They arrived and we put the cake out to defrost, then went to Phoenixville for lunch.
After lunch, we walked through the town and stopped in a store to buy (of all things) garden gnomes! My dad was nice enough to buy us this one.

Then we went to a farm to get pumpkins and apples.
Back at the house, we opened champagne and had the deflated cake. It still tasted really good!

Cheers!

Yum!

We even whipped out the cake toppers!

Add the apple theme and we live the wedding all over again!

Bloodwork Results!!
I went to the surgery office this morning for my 3 month post-op visit. I'm still 50+ lbs lighter, and they told me to keep up the good work.
Back in August, I had bloodwork done by my endocrinologist and I never heard back from him. Today I asked the nurse practitioner if I could see the results (since it's the same health system).
The big news is that my A1C levels, which measure how your blood sugar has been over a couple months dropped from mid-7 to 6.3! The doctor told me to keep it under 7, and the closer to 6, the better. In one month, my blood sugars have gotten so much better!
Also, I'm taking less than HALF of the insulin I was before surgery. Crazy! Even right after surgery, when I turned my insulin pump down, I was taking almost twice what I am now.
Oh, it looks like the start of a nice day :)

I got Tagged! by Lynda
Apparently, I am supposed to do this:
Here are the rules:
1-Link to your tagger and list the rules
2-List 5 random facts about yourself
3-Tag 5 people
4-If you're tagged, play along and pass it on!
Here's the link to Lynda - one of my moms who is not really my mom: http://finesseeembroidery.blogspot.com/
1-I have been diabetic for 26 years. I feel old.
2- I have more current close friends I've met from the internet than I do from "real life".
3- I really don't like milk.
4- My last secretary (who I couldn't stand) was fired on my birthday :)
5- I was born on the 13th, married on the 13th, and I think I'll die on the 13th.
Um, I am going to attempt to Tag:

What's for lunch??
People often ask what I eat for lunch on a work day. Usually it's leftovers from dinner from the night before since I can never finish a full meal.
Last night I had grilled mahi mahi - I think it's overcooked. It actually made me sick last night and I threw up some of it even hours after I ate. It just wouldn't digest. I'm chewing really well right now.
The best thing for me for post-surgery bring-food-to-work purposes are these ziplock tupperware containers. They have a 1 cup size that is perfect for me since I can only eat a few ounces.

And for perspective, you can see how much food it is compared to the size of my hand. I probably won't be able to finish all of it, either.
